Slasher Flick -- Memorial Day (Quick-Flick)

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Memorial Day is a quick-flick that follows the slasher movie tradition of being based on a specific holiday. A sadistic 1930s-era bank robber died in a hail of gunfire while attempting to rob a small-town bank. As he took his dying breath, he swore to kill everyone in the town... no matter what. It happened on Memorial Day and every year on that day, he returns from the grave to carry out his revenge. Now, over 80 years later, a group of holiday vacationers whose vehicle has broken down nearby walks into the now-abandoned town, completely unaware that they are in mortal danger... because it's Memorial Day.

This flick is designed to be printed out on a single sheet of paper or cardstock (front and back). As such, we have included a version without a background to make it easier on your printer's ink.

You'll need either Slasher Flick: the Director's Cut or the original Slasher Flick rulebook in order to use this product.

Slasher Flick material is among the best indie stuff out there. I've run the game and I love it. However, isn't a "Memorial Day" theme a tad tasteless? Someone dead returning on a solemn day commemorating dead heroes? Here's the thing, Halloween is about horror. And there are Christmas horror movies, but this is slightly different: Christmas has been so trivialized and commercialized, that the horror is essentially a critique of popular cultural celebrations of the the holiday, not the religious observance. Baby Jesus has already been offended - he's kinda over it. Now I might sound like a hypocrite, being as I'll be eating BBQ in a few hours, but Memorial Day is a kinda sombre and deliberate. We all have relatives we should be remembering today. True, most died before we were born. This supplement isn't an abominable idea, just an unnecessary one. Please tell me I'm wrong.

I can certainly see where you're coming from, as I truly do appreciate and support the meaning behind the holiday. In fact, I almost didn't release the product as a result. However, I decided to go through with it because the adventure is really more about the concept of a three-day weekend than the holiday itself, just as Friday the 13th really had little to do with the actual Friday the 13th (not that I'm comparing a silly thing like Friday the 13th to something vastly more meaningful like Memorial Day). Whether it's right or wrong, our culture has made Memorial Day weekend more about fun family get-togethers, going to the lake on a boat and cook-outs with loved ones than the somber affair it was meant to be. It's much like how Easter has become more about Easter egg hunts, getting dressed up for family dinner and baskets full of sweet treats.

My intention was certainly not to disrespect those who have fallen in battle and I apologize sincerely if it comes off that way. I just thought it might...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
