EXETER
Tramp Freighter

NOTE: An updated and expanded version of this ship is available in the Armada Codex issue "Exeter B". That product can fully replace this one.

Exeter is a family owned and operated tramp freighter that has been in service for more than 50 years. Designed by the same shipyards that produced the Clydesdale class gunboat, this vessel was built from the ground up to haul cargo and passengers efficiently throughout civilized space. It is far from luxurious but the service is decent and ship runs on time. It has developed a reputation for dependability and a no-questions-asked policy when it comes to custom charters to out of the way locations.

At 228 feet long, this PL-6 freighter has room for a crew of up to eight as well as twenty passengers in the default configuration. There are also freight-only and passenger-only variants, both of which can be represented using the standard map pages. Exeter comes with a 30 ton, five-person skiff and a pair of handy robots to help with the more tedious jobs. Wherever you need to go, Exeter can take you there!

The .zip file contains the following:

  • Overview
    • 19 page PDF file detailing the ship, interior locations, and personnel.
    • Open Game License stats provided for the vessel and crew, as well as the shuttle craft and an armed configuration.
  • Map Book
    • Full-color 25 page PDF file containing complete interior maps.
    • Includes miniature-scale maps for tactical combat.
    • Broken into pages for easy printing.
  • Printer friendly, black and white version of the map book.
  • Miniature-scale composite maps of the ship interior.
    • A 24x36 inch, 150 dpi, color JPEG image of the upper two decks.
    • A 24x36 inch, 150 dpi, color JPEG image of the lower two decks.
  • "Bonus Art" directory with half a dozen rendered images of the freighter and skiff.

Starfinder stats, demo documents, and art are available free at 0-hr.com

This ship will serve as a ready-made vessel for use by either game masters or players. While OGL statistics are provided, they kept are separate for easy modification or replacement. So let Exeter set sail in the space lanes of whatever system you choose.

A Serenity-esqe ship, this is vessel is a little smaller than what would be an economically feasible freighter in real life, but it served well as an interstellar archeologists team's vessel seeking relics from lost civilizations. Picture Indiana Jone [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
