It is the dawning of the Third Age.

An age of great heroes. A time when adventurers from distant lands come together to seek amazing quests for fame, fortune, and glory.

And those guys die. Most of them anyway.

Only the survivors make it into the annals of legend for their magnificent deeds. The dead remains of those who failed are swept into a sack and left on the side of the trail, after everyone has gone through their pockets. And they die pretty nasty deaths, come to think of it. Sliced into bite-sized chunks from death traps, buried alive in catacombs until running out of air, and eaten by wild animals that go for the squishy parts of the anatomy first.

All for the hope of getting a few gold pieces to squander at the local tavern. Hard earned. Quickly lost. And a heck of a lot of scarring.

But for some, there is now a better way.

Well, a safer way.

Okay, a different way.

The world of food trucks. Here in the Fantasy Age. Gruel Truck!

I have seen this game being played at cons and listened to players' stories about their sessions and, based upon that, I had to buy it. Everyone I've seen and/or heard had had a great time with it.

I have to say, this is one of the most entertaining rulebooks I have read (Bedlam Hall is great too). Not only is this game about running a food truck in a fantasy setting, there is appropriate time given to coming with backstories on how the crew got together.

You get two modes: one for a four-player(ish) crew and the other (competitive) for multiple four-player food trucks. I don't know a lot of game in the PtbA space, but I don't know if there are other games that let you play 4, 8 or 12 person RPG that facilitates some great silliness where you can be terrible people to your greatest friends.

I think it is worth the $10 but I bought the softcover at Strategicon, just for the placecards and the Gruel Truck hats that you get with it.

...and so it was in the Third Age, when tales of lore at gatherings of geekdom did inspire the intrepid and daring to abandon murderhobo pursuits in search of grills and glory. The Sacred Order of Monkeyfun doth thank you for such kind words and there was much rejoicing.

Any reviews you could post? 10 bucks is above my "impulse buy" limit, but it looks pretty great so I keep checking.

...but not all who did hear such tales were tempted to abandon the sword for the spatula. They did count their coinage within their mighty sacks, for who would dare to lighten their sack without value or cause. So the Sacred Order of Monkeyfun did go forth to provide those who had questions and nagging doubt within their hearts a beacon of inspiration and virtue. For all good person did need such guiding lights within troubled times. AND THE SACRED ORDER OF MONKEYFUN SHALL PREVAIL! HUZZAH!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
