A new megadungeon from Barrowmaze author Dr. Greg Gillespie!

The lost city of Archaia - an ancient ruin sunken into the earth - lies deep in the badlands. In recent years, caravans from Eastdale have come under attack from orcs, goblins, and worse. Some say these blood-thirsty warbands have made lairs in the deep caves and ruins. Sill others say the ancient halls are filled with magnificent treasures left by the Archaians. Are you brave (or foolish) enough to delve The Forbidden Caverns of Archaia?

THe Forbidden Caverns of Archaia (FCoA) is a 296-page classic old school megadungeon for use with Labyrinth LordTM and other fantasy role-playing games. THe pages of Forbidden Caverns are crammed full with new material, maps, amazing art (including special surprizes by former TSR artists), as well as an amazing colour cover art by Ex-TSR artist Erol Otus that matches Barrowmaze Complete as a sister-book.

The Forbidden Caverns of Archaia will keep your players on their toes and your campaign going strong for years.

FCoA is brought to you by the Old School Renaissance (so don’t forget your 10’ pole).

This project was created through a group of awesome backers from Kickstarter. Without them, this project wouldn't have happened. Thank you for your support!

Ckeck my rggnow profile for all sorts of additional Barrowmaze products and goodies.

Watch for another super cool project in the spring of 2018!

Oh, ok. Here’s why: the download is a zipped file containing the pdf and the poster maps etc. Full size preview only works with a pdf file alone.

Is there any chance of this getting the 5e treatment like Barrowmaze Complete received? I am currently running Barrowmaze 5e version on Roll20.net for an every-other Saturday night thing. The players LOVE this. LOVE it. I knew it was good (having bought and enjoyed the OSR version) but I wasn't sure I could find OSR players. I had a bunch of friends who love 5e, so when the 5e version hit, I bought the 5e Barrowmaze in hardback / PDF. A GORGEOUS print-on-demand I might add, one of my favorite ones from here so far. I need to sit down and write a good review for it soon. But anyway, if The Forbidden Caverns of Archaia is going to get a 5e version eventually (especially as a POD) then I'd wait and get that so it would match my Barrowmaze one. But if it's never going to get 5e I may get the OSR version and take a stab at converting it myself. Sorry if I'm trying to get you to predict the future. :D

Hello,

Yes. I am in contact with a person for the conversion and the new layout. More news to come as the fall progresses.

Any chance that the maps might be made available as full maps? The versions in the PDF are great for printing, but awful for referencing if you're planning on running this via a tablet or the like.

How do the Composition Subtables on p. 33 work? For the life of me I can't seem to figure out how to understand what the Composition column is telling me. What does the number in parentheses represent? What does an entry like 3x2 mean? Sorry if I missed the explanation somewhere, but I can't find it anywhere. Thanks!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
