Not your average sewer-crawl When I saw this was a sewer adventure, I sighed, assuming I'd been there and done that already. But Foulness Beneath Mulmaster is a step above the generic - a short step, maybe, but that's a welcome treat in the context of Adventurer's League. It makes excellent use of flumphs, of all things - spoilers for the first 10 minutes of the module, I guess - treating them with real heart, not just as a joke. It's also packed with memorable NPCs - although they're maybe a little too memorable, in the sense of having a lot of quite deep characterisation provided for people that the module encourages you to move on from quickly or, in one case, who PCs of any reasonable intelligence are likely to just kill outright. As with most Adventurer's League entries, this is more of a short snack than a three-course meal, but it's a tasty one, and it will be of particular value to players and DMs who like to delve a little deeper into the characters they encounter and hope to discover they're more than just genric archetypes. Meat-and-potatoes adventuring done well - recommended.

My party was hooked immediately on coming to the aid of a Flumpf. Then they murderhoboed their way through the rest of this dungeon crawl.

Season 2 module. fairly good module. i wish the older season would get played more than they are. it would be interesting to see previous season played with the new season 9 rules

I really liked this adventure, especially the first part when the players do not know what they are going to meet and they fear enemies of all kinds. The second part is a bit 'confused, do not understand well the motivation of the npc. The final part is an interesting exploration but not at the levels of other modules. Final trap very bastard.

I enjoyed this module a lot, both as a player and a DM. Admittedly, this is partly because I'm a fan of Flumphs.

The last encounter is a lot of fun. Every time I've been at a table for this module (playing or DM'ing), the party has managed to trigger combat with a single advance scout who then has to deal with things while the rest of the party is rushing to get there. We've had a couple of notable (and hilarious) successes with the pincer sticks, too, which are a fun element.

In contrast, the Water Weird room often doesn't seem to work that well. Once revealed, most of our parties have just hung back and picked at it from range, or sat there while the players tried to figure out how to hang back and pick at it from range while still opening the gate to the next room and it's bogged down the game.

And the troglodytes just seem too weak and too spread out to be a threat. Maybe if they all swarmed the party at once they'd be a small threat (especially if they can find a low AC target for their multiattack), but mostly I find them to be an ineffective monster.

I don't feel like there's that much exploration in this module (I mean, there is, but it's actually pretty much on rails), but there's certainly as much role playing and social interaction as the party wants to bring. I find that many parties try awfully hard to resist and/or argue with the press-ganging up front, and do better with a bit of DM fiat telling them to quiet down and accept it because it's their quest hook.

Foulness is one of those mods that everyone has to play (well, if they have a Warlock that is...). After playing and DMing this a few times, I do love the flexiblity to swap elements around (swapping up the order of encounters, etc.)

This mod however can be deadly - especially with the terrain and situation the party can be in. I'd recommend to take stock of the players at multiple points throughout and keep an eye on their stats - a few monsters grouped up on a character or a well placed spell can spell doom for the players.

Also, I feel this mod gives people PTSD of water/sewers. Follow this one up with Ooze There and then Dark Waters of Hate and watch your PCs never go near water and sewers every again.

I very much enjoyed the uniqueness of this adventure, with the players having to deal with environments and creatures they don't see every day. The crossover between cults made for a very interesting dynamic to roleplay as a DM and an even more interesting dynamic to introduce the players to.

This is a fairly decent adventure. But I have a few gripes.

It doesn't provide a lot a flavor text or description. If you don't have it well-prepared, you may skip over some important items when the characters reach a new zone.

Additionally, as has been mentioned before, there should be more maps, or a better description of the inner & outer crypts. There isn't much to go on here. I had to read and re-read the outter crypt sections to figure out what was happening.

I also recommend beefing up the last fight with the skeletons. I'd probably throw in a few more lacedons to spice that fight up. Make them Kuo Toan lacedons and you're good to go.

I really like Sgt Maskyr. She's probably going to show up in my games a few more times. And, although I liked the inclusion of the Flumphs, I would rework how they got there. Chasing after troglodies makes no sense. Being chased by troglodies works much better.

The Encounter with Xaxan is also a pretty solid entry. It allows for a lot of good roleplay. Be careful not to allow the party to simply assault him and his men.

Overall, pretty good, but requires some fine-tuning to make truly memorable.

Sewer scenes bring a few new challenenges for enviro-hazards. Tons of things to kill in there too! Wish there were more actual maps though.

I love dungeon crawls! Or in this case - a sewer crawl. Nice straightforward mission, not much to side track the PCs. The twist at the end can be fun to mess with the party (not quite dead). My only gripe is only one map, or even lacking clear guidance on drawing the other areas. As a visual DM, I like to "see" what is going on, and I do not think I have ever run this the same way twice. Despite that, this is a fun one for combat heavy groups.

I ran this module recently at the FLGS that participates in Adventurer's League a few days ago. Overall, the module is pretty good. It runs fairly well, providing plenty of opportunity for both roleplay and for combat. The map of the vault area could have been better drawn, but the module certainly didn't suffer for it.

I think this module is a great module - it provides a lot of opportunities for characters to roleplay and interact with a monster that isn't evil, so it's hard to murder-hobo the module. The final encounter is interesting, as it is potentially underwater, which makes it that much more difficult for the party to survive, but can also make it incredibly enjoyable and memorable for them.

Recommend Purchase: Yes Playing this adventure counts towards the Season 2 quest: 'Benefits of the Brotherhood of the Cloaks' XP Range: 900-1200

Note: No Season 1, 2, or 3 module has a digital certificate to print because WotC says they can't accept volunteer help for legal reasons and won't allow their paid employees to create the certificates even though they have the templates.

The DMSGUILD site segregates reviews between people who've purchased it here and everyone else. They do NOT have a robust rating system, relying instead on the 5-star model.

This adventure was very enjoyable for myself and my players. There were however a few moments that could be inproved upon.

At the beginning of the adventure, there wasn't a reward for the adventures. This tied in with the end where I (as the Sergant) told them there wasn't a reward for the job, offering only adventure and whatever they found. The first encounter with the other adventurers is a good RP moment that could be used to award inspiration if the characters are selfless. The sink hole in the first combat encounter is good to have as a surprise. The skull with the helmet could be changed to that of the lost dwarf to close the loop with the previous adventurers. Laal is a useful good informat to too trusting adventurers. Meeting with the cult provides the GM a chance to determine if the party needs a short rest or not. The betrayal of the cult after the troglydytes may be too much for a party, if they use all there resource or a few go down before then. An easy solution is Laal to suggest the cults untrustworthy when they first meet them and during combat with teh troglydytes. The fight with the water wierd is not difficult and has no adjust block to it. The room it was in could be a puzzle only and the water wierd could be in the pool of water in the inner vault. I tried this with the party and I asked them for feed back on this encounter, which they all agree it was more satisfying, especially to those who played this adventure before with different characters. With the last encounter being a potential underwater fight, it made my players want more of these types of fights. The magic item obviously for warlocks only, but unlocks warlock multiclassing RP for the character who get it. This could, however, also be disappointing if no characters are able to multiclass (e.g. less than 13 CHA) or have no intention to. Lastly, since magic isn't subject to Mulmaster's laws underground, casters a chance to shine within the city without risks. Overall this adventure was fun to run.

A module with a revenge seeking Flumph. Instantly amazing. For real though, the module is good, and accentuates the feeling that mulmaster sucks both above and below. Above is oppression, below is dangerous with monsters and cult activity. The threat of sewer plague whilethe effects gets delayed, can be threatening in regards if the infected is unlucky.
